Novel Baby Cakes - Great Gift Idea

Baby Cakes

Whilst chatting to my sister the other day she told me that there had been a baby boom within her friends and family circles. She went on to tell me about the gorgeous "Baby Cakes" she had been making as gifts for the new parents. We are not talking the flour and egg variety of cake but more a craft version, put together with all manner of divine baby products. What a fabulous, novel, useful and thoughtful gift idea. Have attached some piccies of her "Cakes" :]

The cake consists of 3 layers on a cake board. She uses a baby towel for the bottom layer and then packs this layer with newborn disposable nappies. For the second layer she uses a baby blanket filled with gifts such as baby romper, singlets, bibs, booties and newborn mittens, a brush and comb, teething ring, rattle, dummy, my first toothbrush and milk teeth toothpaste. For the top layer of the cake she puts in baby soap, baby shampoo, baby powder, baby lotion, lavender oil (these are all small size bottles). She prefers to use organic ranges like Gia baby products and Eco Store available from Woolies. They come in beautiful scents such as lavender, wheatgerm and chamomile and the soap is made from goatsmilk. All the products are organic with no nasty chemicals, dyes, or perfumes for our precious little ones. To decorate the baby cake she uses themed coloured ribbons and silk flowers. She also uses baby socks and singlets and rolls them up to make fabric roses along the edges of the cake. On the top of the cake she put a pretty pair of baby girls shoes or for the boys a cute little pair of baby boy shoes. I am sure you will all agree with me when I say that her homemade "Baby Cakes" are just gorgeous!

*To cut costs she suggested that a group of friends or family members all chip in towards the cost of the "Baby Cake".
